About Mice Western Australia

For too long, farmers, environmentalists and government decision makers have made estimates and assumptions on animal density. They have been inaccurate at the best of times, and sometimes, costly. Mice Western Australia is a business dedicated to providing actual data to animal density conversations and decision making.

The result is a suite of services that a variety of stakeholders will find informative and invaluable.

What makes Mice Western Australia such a game changer is its incredible technology offering. On the back of a Volkswagen Amarok, is almost half a million dollars in camera and sensor technology. It is the most comprehensive setup of its kind available anywhere in Australia. This gives us the kind of insights that no one has seen before.

The approach to animal density includes:

Thermal infrared: heat style sensors (often used from the chopper in police chases) used to detect heat and identify animals.

Infrared light: for incredible detail, used to identify the type of animal.

Ultraviolet light: used to identify blood, urine and saliva and thereby determine where animals have been previously.

The result is actual animal density data, not estimates.

Mice Western Australia is the first Australian business to be able to make this claim, and it is backed by accreditation from Australia’s leading accreditation organisation, NATA [TBC].

About Lachlan McLeod

Mice Western Australia is the brainchild of Australian-based Kiwi, Lachlan McLeod.

Lachlan is passionate about the great outdoors and providing a solution to a rural issue that has failed to keep pace with the incredible technology advances now available.

The idea of setting up Mice Western Australia first came to him while living in Japan. While working on the commissioning of new commercial boats, Lachlan witnessed sensor technology used to identify pirates and illegal fishing boats.

As you would expect, these types of vessels travelled without lights, and thermal imaging was an effective way to spot them.

Lachlan has an employment background in quality assurance and quality control and his more recent experience has seen him take roles in the mines near Kalgoorlie. During this period he has seen regular confrontation between roo shooters / farmers and government / environmentalists. He believes Mice Western Australia can help with these types of discussions by providing actual data rather than estimates and speculation.

Lachlan is supported in the business by his daughters Renee and Cindy.
